Well, she decided to join our family 2 months early! Today was a very hectic, stressful day for all of us. Now that it is all said and done, we couldn't be more overwhelmed with joy. My day started out like any other day, but soon took a wild turn. It was around 9:40 a.m. and I made a stop to try and empty my bladder. I found blood when I wiped and immediately called my peranatologist. They told me to call my OBGYN's office to see what my next move should have been. That is when I was told to get to the office as soon as possible. I called the WV State Police Academy in Charleston and told them to contact Larry and send him on his way.
I went to the OBGYN's office in Hagerstown to find out that I was dialated to 3 cm. After the exam, Dr. Oh told me to go to the hospital to be further observed by one of my other doctors Dr. Kathari. My friend, Mariah drove me the whole way and by the time I was examed in Washington County Hospital, I was 4 cm along. They immediately put an IV in and doubled me up with any meds possible to attempt to stop the contractions. If the contractions would not stop...he would have no other choice than to deliver me. He gave me an hour, and I had dialated to almost 7 cm! It was time to prep for an emergency C-section.
Larry made it here in time, and I was in the ER within 20 minutes after I measured 7 cm. The operation was pretty extreme because all the pain I had been complaining about since last Tuesday was finally justified. I had a placental abruption, and was bleeding extremely bad in my uterus. Dr. Kathari told me that this is not something that can be detected through an ultrasound and would have gone undiagnosed if I hadn't gone into labor. This condition is very severe and could have killed our baby girl. God really watched over her and made sure that the doctors and the medication did not stop labor from occurring. We are so thankful for that!
My uterus had to be cut vertically and horizontally to get Kaydence completely out. They didn't have any problems getting her, but the teratoma was too large to get out, so they had to cut me vertically to get it out. They said that if we would have waited another few weeks to deliver...my uterus would have been destroyed during the C-section, and we would not have been able to have more children. Not to mention, Kaydence would have died from the placental abruption.
Our precious little baby was born at 5:41 p.m. and weighed 6 pounds 10 ounces. Her tumor is the same size of her body, and they are guessing that once it is removed...she will weigh 3 pounds 6 ounces.
Kevin and Beth came to the hospital and joined Larry in prayer to bless our miracle while I was in recovery. Kaydence was stabilized and flown to Childrens Hospital in DC around 9: 30 p.m. and Larry drove there to stay with her.
What a day! I am exhausted, and still numb to the whole thought of our daughter being born. We were not ready at all, but ready to take on the challenge. We have a long road until she gets to come home with us, and we will keep you posted on how our little fighter is doing.
